Power of the Metal !!! :)
Question;
What materials conduct electricity and why?
Hypothesis:
If electricity flows through metal and not other materials, then metal is a good conductor of electricity.
Procedure:Detail steps so anyone can reproduce this at school or home
Use a numbered list 1) Take a battery and connect two wires to the positive and negative 2) Connect a light bulb to the end of one wire 3) Insert your conductor (metal, wood, glass) to the wire. If the light bulb light up you have a good conductor Special Needs: Add any requirements for your station for Science night - electricity, water, fire extinguisher, etc. |

Conclusions
Metal has chemical properties that allow for electricity to flow. Specifically, the atoms in metal are aligned and they all have many free electrons that can move from one atom to another in a straight line to allow the negatively charged electrons to bring electric energy from one side of the material to the other. Wood and glass have few free electrons and their atoms are not aligned, so there are less electrons to move and they bump into other atoms, rather than flow through the material.
